Why it matters
Prepare your caregiver for California roads
Driving experience abroad doesn't always prepare someone for San Francisco traffic, freeway merging, school zones, or California right-of-way rules. Lessons start at the caregiver's current level and focus on the driving they'll do for your family.
Important: host families should independently confirm that the caregiver is legally permitted and properly insured to drive the household vehicle. What to check first →
Two options
Assessment or complete training?
Host Family Driving Assessment
Start here if you want an instructor's view of the caregiver's driving first.
- Two hours of driving with an instructor
- Scores and notes by email after the drive
Road-Ready Package
Choose this when you already know the caregiver needs structured practice.
- California traffic rules: right-of-way, lane changes, school zones, and road signs
- School and family-route practice, when practical
- Freeway and city driving: merging, following distance, parking, and busy San Francisco streets
Before you book
- The caregiver must bring their original, valid California instruction permit or California driver's license to every lesson. A photo or a copy won't work. A driver's license from another country isn't enough on its own.
- Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead and you keep the lesson for later. Refunds are minus a $49.99 fee, unless we can't provide your lessons.
- After you pay, we'll contact you the same day, usually within a few hours, to confirm your exact address, date, and time. If we can't pick up at that address, you get a full refund.

FAQ
Questions host families ask
Will the host family receive a written report?
There's no separate written report. The instructor grades the caregiver's driving skills and adds notes, sent to you by email after the drive.
Is this package only for international caregivers?
No. It is also appropriate for nannies, caregivers, and returning drivers who need more confidence or experience on San Francisco and Peninsula roads.
Can you practice the routes our caregiver will drive?
When practical, lessons can include local routes to schools, parks, activities, and other family destinations. Route practice depends on location, lesson time, traffic, and safety conditions.
Does this package convert a foreign license into a California license?
No. This package provides driving instruction and does not convert a foreign license or international permit. The caregiver is responsible for meeting California DMV licensing requirements.
Does completing the package guarantee that a caregiver can safely transport children?
No driving program can guarantee future performance or eliminate driving risk. The host family remains responsible for deciding whether the caregiver may drive the household vehicle.
